About Caroline Aisher Ceramicist

Early on, Caroline had her first experience with Pottery as a teenager. Then, she continued developing her skill whilst studying Art at College in Ireland. Later on, once the right time came along, she dipped back into the Arts. And so, Caroline enrolled at The Potting Shed, Ashprington. Which was the perfect gateway to further development. As she soon became a Member at Studio 45, Dartington Hall, under the expert tuition of Richenda MacGregor and Verran Townsend. This  proved a turning point in her career and pottery became the media to explore her inspiration.

Inspiration derived from Nature”

Caroline lives on the Southern Edge of Dartmoor and 20 mins away from the Coast. She is inspired by both, the Moor and the Sea. This is reflected in all her creations in more ways than one. Not just in shape and design. But also down to the raw elements. Often, she includes foraged clay from moor and coast to add extra texture. Sometimes, these create an interesting chemical reaction in the kiln, resulting in stunning finishes.

“Ceramic vases that reflect Devon’s textures, light and Form”

As a nature lover, Caroline seeks inspiration walking around Devon and Cornwall in all weathers. And as a ceramicist, she is attracted to rugged landscapes, the sea and natural forms. Whilst on her outings, she searches for wild clays & minerals to experiment with them creating meaningful and relevant texture and structure. She also enjoys using Clay Slips and Oxides to give colour and texture on thrown and hand built forms. Above all, her focus at present is on making unique and individual Silver Birch Trees and Seascapes.

Caroline now works from her Garden Studio in Devon alongside her four legged assistant, a beautiful cocker Spaniel.
