About Leanne Ball ceramicist
Leanne Ball is a ceramicist based in Nottingham. She creates under the name of Rolling Roses and produces exquisite collections of ceramics. Initially, she found a passion for clay at university. During her degree in Contemporary Decorative Crafts she fell in love with porcelain. After graduating, she continued making. Eventually converting her outhouse into a studio.
Leanne is drawn to the purity and translucency of porcelain. She hand-builds all her pieces to be able to imprint texture and relief. Specifically, she combines this delicate medium with the intricate and beautiful patterns of lace. Thus producing decorative and functional ceramics with a textile like surface. First, she rolls the lace into thin sheets of clay. Then, once fired, the natural translucency of the porcelain shines through when held up to light sources. All her pieces are bisque fired. Then glazed simply in a soft pastel colour palette to enhance the pattern and purity of the porcelain. A third firing adds gold lustre to many pieces.
Finally, her inspiration comes from a passion for textiles. As well as and a love of curiosities and collections, particularly groups of found or precious objects. She produces collections of tealight holders, tea ware, vases, bowls and dishes. Also, a small range of geometric inspired jewellery complimenting the pastel tones.
