ARTIST INTERVIEW – LOUELLA MOORE
Artist interview – Louella Moore is a jeweller based in Tavistock. She is inspired by the ruggedness of the moors and the beautiful coastline Devon. She translates this into bold and textured pieces. Made in silver or gold. Often featuring raw precious stones. At Tidal Gallery we stock an extensive collection of jewell studs, coastal rings, and original necklaces by the artist.
When did you start making jewellery?
I I started making jewellery about 10 years ago, but I’ve always created, I just had to find my niche.
Why did you become an artist?
I didn’t really intend to! At the time I had a job I hated and a friend said to me “if you could do anything in the world, what would you do?” I said I’d make jewellery so she said “do that then!” It was a hobby that escalated.
Where would you ultimately like to see your Art?
My most valued commissions are to people who request a piece to mark a special occasion, memory or time. I love making engagement rings!
What are you currently working on?
Currently I’m working on having another baby so I’m on maternity leave. The designs don’t stop falling into my head though! (*Since this interview was recorded, Louella has had a precious baby girl. We are all extremely happy and wish her the best of luck with motherhood n.2!)
Who or what is your muse?
Nature is a massive inspiration for me, as is storytelling and hidden meanings.
What is your favourite piece and why?
At the moment I love the raw diamond rings I’ve been making. Each one is unique and there really is something special about diamonds!
A quote: You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.” Max Ehrmann.
A colour: Blue or purple.
A song: Fleetwood mac, The chain.
Favourite artist: I don’t have one, I have a massively varied love for many artists. However the artist I have the most work by is Esther Connon.
Favourite place: Cornwall or Venice are both very special to me.
A hobby: Swimming, knitting, being in the sea!
